Is your knee aching? Maybe you locked your knees when you got out of bed or when you stepped out the front door. Or you could have hurt it during fitness training. No matter the cause, when your knee has some kind of pain, it can feel like the normal things are few and far between. Walking becomes a chore. You can’t run and you can’t fully stretch. It could be the onset of a health condition, so you should be aware of what you’re dealing with. There are many types of knee pain, so it could be for a number of reasons.
Fracture
If you have severe pain, it could be a fracture. This is when there has been a failure in the joint itself and not a tendon or muscle. It’s hard to verify without an x-ray. However, there are some symptoms you may be feeling.
- Short, sharp pulsating pain.
- Unable to move your knee at all or very little.
- Severe bruising, not caused by muscle injury, but blood released from within the bone
- The pain won’t go away after a few days or it doesn’t lessen at all.
See a doctor as soon as you can. You can also get to the hospital and they will do an x-ray if it’s needed.
Twisted knee
A twisted knee is very painful but it’s not going to be a sharp pain like a fracture. It will be like throbbing pain because the ligaments have perhaps ripped or overextended. This can cause you to feel a number of symptoms.
- The ligaments are very sensitive.
- The knee can flex, but it doesn’t allow you to twist your feet without pain
- Your knee is inflamed, with blood pooling at the area.
- You hear pops when you move it.
This is when you need a Chiropractor. They will use gentle adjustments that will not twist or pop your knee. Their techniques have been backed up by science so it’s no longer just simply but rough adjustments.
A dull pain
This is perhaps most commonplace. A dull pain can be for any number of reasons. Most likely it due to your knee taking on too much loads when it was not in the right position. This can result in a number of pains.
- General stiffness.
- Pain that comes and goes with each walking step
- When you flex the pain shoots up.
- It’s just always there
The first call is to get a bandage for your knee. This will help you to stabilize the knee and a bandage doesn’t cost very much. You can also use ice on the knee, to bring new blood to the area and help it to heal. You can also do some stretches which could relieve the pain caused by tight tendons. You may also want to try getting some extra rest, so get to bed earlier than before.
Knee pain is a complex issue. Sometimes it’s easy to diagnose, and sometimes it’s not. If you have doubts, make sure to see a doctor. I’m sure you’ll want to be feeling your best!
