6 Things You Should Know About Healthy Skin

January 14, 2021 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

If you want healthy skin, there are a few things you should know first. Healthy skin might seem elusive to those who have struggled to obtain it, but you might be surprised at what you learn below. Take a look and see for yourself what you should know about healthy skin:

Healthy Skin Doesn’t Mean Perfect Skin

Shock, horror: healthy skin doesn’t mean perfect skin! Skin that looks perfect and glassy might not be as healthy as you think, and skin that is healthy will likely still have some imperfections. Health should be the main goal of those who want to take care of their skin, not perfection.

Healthy Skin Should Be Protected From The Sun Daily

If you want healthy skin, you need to protect it from the sun each day. Sun damage can happen when it’s cold, raining, and even snowing. It can happen when the sun is nowhere in sight. Sun damage can even happen through windows, so if you’re in the house all day or driving a car, you still need to protect your skin! Apply SPF without fail each day. The earlier you get into the habit of doing this, the better.

Healthy Skin Needs Health From The Inside Out

Don’t just focus on slathering products onto your skin. Healthy skin needs to be healthy from the inside out. This means eating a balanced diet full of fruit and vegetables, staying hydrated, and taking the right supplements. Working on your health from the inside out will give results that really show on your skin.

Healthy Skin Doesn’t Need Expensive Products

Healthy skin doesn’t need expensive, complicated products. There are many products out there now that will improve your skin for an amazing price. The Ordinary is a trustworthy brand, providing simple products that really work for all skin types. You can get amazing results with medical grade skincare, but if you know your skin type and you’re vigilant in learning what works for you, you can still improve your skin. Of course, if you’re quite mature and only just getting into skincare, you may want to visit a pro to see what they recommend for you. Some people find that their whole face shape changes with a facelift, but others prefer non-invasive facial treatments. There’s something out there for everyone!

Stress Can Play A Part In How Healthy Your Skin Is

If you find yourself continuously stressed, you could find yourself with deep brownlines, spots, and other clues on your skin. Keeping stress at bay will help not only your skin, but your body and mind.

Beauty Sleep is Real

Beauty sleep does make a difference! Aiming for 8 hours of sleep a night (high quality, that is) will ensure you wake up feeling and looking fresh. Less than 6 hours is just as bad as no sleep at all, so don’t try to burn the candle at both ends. Just because you can function on a ton of coffee and less than 6 hours doesn’t mean you should.

How do you attain healthy skin?

December 6, 2020 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

the only holiday gift guide you'll need in 2020

Whether it feels like it or not, the holidays are here. I know for me, it still feels like March (thanks pandemic/COVID-19). Luckily though, the holidays can be a happy time, full of love and cheer. And although this year definitely looks different, and many of us won’t be traveling to see our family and friends, that doesn’t mean we can’t think of our loved ones and surprise them with a gift!

I love gift giving (is that cliché to say?). I especially love when the recipient doesn’t know they’re getting a gift. I put a lot of thought into what I choose for each person, and I’ve done plenty of research on 2020’s top gifts. To save you some time, I’m sharing some of these gifts with you! Whether they’re things you want to gift to loved ones, or things you want to gift yourself (hello self-care), there’s something for everyone on this list. Enjoy!

Quick Tips For Top To Toe Beauty

February 23, 2020 By lyndsinreallife 1 Comment

There is, of course, so much more to life than beauty. But feeling great can happen in so many ways, and feeling beautiful is a personal thing. You don’t need to spend big cash on feeling and looking great. There are some small lifestyle additions you can make that can make a lot of difference.

Photo by Camille Brodard on Unsplash

Hair

Having luscious locks can make you feel like a million dollars. If you have frizzy hair or suffer from dry hair, then this is for you. First, you should either schedule regular appointments with a hairdresser, or you can learn to do a unicorn cut, or trim split ends, yourself.

If you want something that is budget-friendly and quick-acting then the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle reconstructor might just be your new best friend. It can kick your frizz into touch, and leaves you with sleek and shiny hair in no time. Well, 3 minutes actually.

If you want to use something more natural, then you can slather your hair in honey and coconut oil for dry hair, and ACV and lemon for oily hair.

Face Skin

Face spritzers are a big trend right now. They are really quick to use and can give your skin a big boost. You need to make sure that you are having enough water before you can expect miracles from face creams, lotions and spritzes. After adding more water to your diet, check out Mario Badscu’s Facial Spray with Aleo Herbs and Rosewater. It’s great for calming dry and irritated skin. You’ll feel dewy all day long.

If you suffer with acne, dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema, you may find that the skin on your face is blotchy, and this can greatly affect your self confidence. Using CBD skin care products can dramatically reduce the redness on your face, and even help clear up your skin problems!

Neck

People tend to forget their neck when doing their daily routines. Make sure that you extend your cleansing and moisturizers down your neck and decolletage. And if you want an extra trick, then neck contouring is a thing.

Scrub

To keep your skin looking great, all you need is three things:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • A great exfoliator
  • A rich moisturizer

If you want to create a scrub yourself, all you will need is brown sugar and some olive oil. You can swap sugar for salt, it’s up to you which you prefer. This is ideal if you are avoiding harsh chemicals. Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer too. However, aloe vera and other natural oils work their wonders as well!

Feet

Your feet are super hard working. You are likely on them all day, so you have to take care of them. If you have a job where you are walking a lot, then consider insoles for plantar fasciitis. They will give you a cushioned protection. Also, consider some foot packs. They are brimming with nourishing ingredients to leave your feet soft and relaxed. If you suffer from hot or swollen feet, then a peppermint foot spray will provide a cooling sensation for your tootsies.

These small beauty tips can be done in just a few minutes and can help you feel calm, relaxed, and beautiful all week long. Feeling pampered and hydrated helps you glow from the inside and out!

Worried About Hair Loss? Eat These Foods

February 22, 2020 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

Image

One of the things we all want to maintain in life is our hair. Our hair can become a huge part of our identity and many of us use our hair to convey our personality by cutting it or dyeing it.

But what happens when we unexpectedly begin to lose hair? There are many different conditions that can result in hair loss: cancer, alopecia, stress, age and more. For example, telogen effluvium is caused by stress as well as diet choices. A lot of the time these conditions can be hard to resolve, however there are methods to reduce or reverse hair loss using natural means.

Today we are looking closer into the diet we eat, and what food could actually prevent hair loss, and keep us feeling confident throughout our life.

Prunes

Prunes are dried plums, and they are a food most of us often forget exists. Prunes are one of the most popular dried fruits and they actually have some great health benefits. If you are noticing that your hair is starting to fall out or that it is dry and brittle, eat some prunes. Prunes are full of iron, and this helps to strengthen hair.

Walnuts

Nuts are a superfood in their own right, and walnuts are the best for your hair. Walnuts are packed with omega 6, zinc, iron, vitamin B, and protein. Protein is essential for the repair and formation of tissue and will be instrumental in keeping the hair follicles strong and healthy.

Eggs

It’s no surprise that eggs are featured on another healthy eating list. Eggs are filled with the building blocks of life, and as a result they offer some incredible health benefits for anyone who wants to eat them. Containing iron, zinc, vitamin B, and protein, this is the ideal superfood for anyone who doesn’t want to lose their hair.

Peas

Peas are one of the most well-loved vegetables on the planet (and by me!) and most of us love a good portion of peas with our meals. Peas are not only rich in vitamin C and fiber, but also vitamin B1 which is essential for strong hair. B7 or Biotin can also be taken as a supplement and is proven to help the hair grow thicker and longer.

Carrots

Carrots are always associated with eyesight, and while they do provide us with essential Vitamin A for our eyes, they also provide benefits to the hair. Vitamin A helps to keep our scalp healthy and moisturized. A healthy scalp is the catalyst for healthy hair, and it ensures that as new hair grows it is shiny and thick.

Oats

Isn’t oatmeal just one of the best breakfasts on a cold day? Well, you’ll be glad to know that the simple oat is full of good stuff. It is packed with fiber to aid digestion, but for the hair in particular it contains a good dose of iron, as well as omega 6. Omega 6 is a fatty acid, and fatty acids are great for lubricating the body with essential oils. As these oils form on the scalp, they will hydrate your hair and keep it strong.

The Surefire Way To Make Your Legs Rock In Any Outfit

February 7, 2020 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

Pixabay – CC0 License

With spring just a few weeks away, the time will soon arrive for you to get your legs out. Before you know it, you’ll be wearing skirts, dresses, shorts and open-toed shoes.

Many of you worry, though, about how your legs look. Winter is great because you can cover yourself up with trousers and nobody will say a thing. Come the warmer weather, however, and all of a sudden, the pressure is on to get them out.

Are you worried about how your legs look? Please take a look at these fashion tips to give them an instant lift!

Use Heels For Extra Height

Pixabay – CC0 License

One of the best ways to make legs look better is to give them a little extra height. When you wear heels, you automatically elongate the legs, creating a more flattering figure. You can either use traditional heels or, for a more comfortable experience, wedges instead. These shoe options create an optical illusion that makes your legs look longer and more slender.

Exfoliate Your Legs Once Per Week

Have you ever wondered how celebrities always seem to have shimmering, glossy legs? Mostly, it comes down to their exfoliation routine.

Pimples and blemishes aren’t limited to your face and neck. They affect your legs too. And when they do, they can create discoloration and even dryness.

The best defense is exfoliation once per week. This practice helps to unblock pores and keep everything fresh and clean. Plus, when you exfoliate, you encourage younger, healthier skin to come through.

Pull Your Socks Up

If you take a look at any retailer, like Vim & Vigr, you’ll immediately notice something: they always market their socks pulled up. The reason they do this has to do with the way it flatters the legs. Pulling your socks a third of the way up your legs immediately achieves the “golden ratio.” The sock is in a ratio of 1:1.6 with the rest of your leg, creating a more beautiful appearance.

Plus, besides the mathematics of aesthetics, you can buy socks these days that look fab – instantly enhancing your figure.

Don’t Wear Ankle Straps With Wide Calves

If you have wide calves, try to avoid wearing ankle straps. While straps are currently in fashion, they have an annoying habit of enhancing the width of your lower legs – and that might not be something you want!

Skip the straps and wear traditional pumps, heels, or sandals instead. If you’re in the mood for spending money on your feet, go for a pedicure – it’ll enhance your look AND make you feel great.

Opt For High-Waist Shorts

If you’re in the mood for shorts but don’t want to bare it all, then choose shorts with a high waist that fit around your middle. These garments have the effect of lengthening the legs and body, creating a more flattering appearance.

Don’t choose shorts with narrow cut holes just because that’s what your friends wear. Make sure that they’re wide enough to show off your legs in style.

Changes You Can Make To Improve Your Smile

January 22, 2020 By lyndsinreallife 11 Comments

Our smile can be the biggest giveaway about our personality. Picture someone with a big and vibrant smile. Someone who is showing their teeth. They look happy, they look full of life. Then picture someone who isn’t smiling so fully. Not showing any teeth at all. They may look unhappy, like they are forcing a smile. While it’s silly to make such pre-judged assumptions studies show that we make a decision on someone within two minutes. Imagine if you were giving off the wrong impression because of how you smiled? With that in mind, it might be time to start focusing on your teeth in more detail. Here are a few tips on how you can achieve your perfect smile.

Clean your teeth

Teeth need regular maintenance just like any other part of your body. They get used a lot and your mouth is subject to all sorts of things. Regularly cleaning your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste allows you to protect your teeth. Things like gum disease and tooth decay. The food we eat has many things in them like sugar or acid that can erode our teeth away if we don’t keep them clean. Let’s not mention the bad breath that will become apparent. While this may be obvious to you, it’s definitely worth remembering to keep it up.

Flossing

Sometimes cleaning our teeth just isn’t enough. Our toothbrushes can do their best but food can get into nooks and gaps in your teeth. If they are not removed they can rot away your teeth. Flossing is a great way to make sure every bit of food is removed from your teeth. It can give a real clean feeling in your mouth. Flossing once a day should be enough.

Cosmetic enhancements

You may not smile as often as you should because you are conscious about how your teeth look. You won’t be alone in this opinion, many men and women feel the same about their teeth. Thankfully, in today’s modern world you can visit your dentist who will discuss advanced cosmetic dentistry with you and can advise on the options that you can consider for sorting out your teeth. This might be straightening and realigning or consider something like veneers. You will be able to discuss what you don’t like and they will be best placed to tell you what they can do.

Teeth Whitening

If it isn’t the shape or alignment of your teeth that is getting you down but more the color then why not consider some teeth whitening. This can give you a real sense of confidence once any treatments have been completed. Cosmetic dentists can get rid of any stains on your teeth that may have been caused from drinking tea and coffee or other drinks. Teeth whitening is something that can be easily done. You can even consider buying special toothpastes if you don’t fancy heading to a dentist.

Regular trips to the dentist

Finally, keeping a regular appointment schedule with your dentist will be essential for good dental health. Hey can advise of any issues and work with you to resolve them.

Let’s hope these tips help you achieve the perfect smile!

The 101 Routine To Reverse Sun Damage

November 28, 2019 By lyndsinreallife 1 Comment

Reversing sun damage sounds ambitious. Let’s be clear from the start: You can’t undo what has been done on the spot. In other words, if you’re looking for a secret remedy to tame an unexpected sunburn, this is not the article for you. While direct sunlight exposure is beneficial for your mind and body, it’s fair to say that you can have too much of a good thing. After a hot summer, your hair can feel dry and brittle. Blond hair, especially, tends to take a turn for dull yellow hues. As for your skin, you may notice a lasting sensation of tightness. Unfortunately, once the damage is done, it doesn’t disappear as the sunlight reduces. While you can cover up with rich creams or vibrant hair dye, you also need to address the problem in the deeper layers of your cells. Winter is the best time to tackle the summer damages, as you’ve got plenty of time to heal before the next hot season.

Pixabay – CC0 License

Your Hair Deserves Some Attention

You need to nourish your hair from within if you want to get it back to health. Dry hair especially can feel unruly and messy, which in turn forces you to use additional styling products and heat – and you can guess that over-styling damaged hair is the last thing you want to do. Therefore, if you find that you haven’t been able to manage your frizzy and unruly locks, you should look for a combination of products that can repair the sun damage. The Joico Defy Damage hair care line is an excellent tip for anybody who is trying to regain full hair health. It’s also a good idea to stay away from the blow dryer for a while, and embrace the natural drying process to keep heat damage to a minimum.

Help Your Skin to Heal

Switching your skin care products for winter moisturizers is the best thing you can do to keep your skin hydrated and healthy in winter. However, if your skin isn’t healthy to begin with, then you’ll need to consider treatments that can help to heal the sun damage. You can look into professional support to boost your collagen production in the areas that have been affected by the summer sun. Med spa treatments tend to offer dedicated skin care cures, such as CO2 laser skin resurfacing, for instance, which triggers the healing process. Skin lotions can only address surface damages.

Give Your Body The Supplements It Needs

Last but not least, your body produces its own collagen. However, this production reduces over time. Collagen promotes skin healing, elasticity, firmness, and healthy hair. If you want to reduce the visible signs of sun damage, you need to help your body boost its natural collagen production. The easiest way to get more collagen is to consume it as a supplement. Not only does it help to reduce fine lines, but it also restores moisture to the skin cells and strengthens your hair.

Ideally, you need to protect your skin and hair from extreme sun exposure. However, once the mistake is made, the best course of action is to address the problem directly in your skin cells and hair follicles. Don’t cover it up, but build health from within!

How To Protect Your Teeth As Best You Can

November 20, 2019 By lyndsinreallife 7 Comments

Pexels – CC0 License

Dental health is likely only something you think about when you’re experiencing an issue. For the most part, healthy teeth are not noticeable, but we all know how terrible toothache can feel, especially if we are in need of major restorative work. Even most of us who have been through the ‘retainer’ period as children may find that in adulthood, we forget about our dental health unless there is a problem.

However, it’s important to note that our teeth are not infinitely restorable, and so it’s best to look after them while they’re there. This is also an important practice to follow within the household, because the habits and practices we teach our children will set them up for their dental health (or a lack thereof) for life.

Of course, sometimes, such as in the case of emergency issues, you will need immediate help and the ability to cater to your particular needs. However, the following advice is geared towards the yearly sustenance of your teeth that you can adopt on a habitual basis. Let’s see what that may look like!

Cut Down On Sugar

Cut down on the sugar you consume. This can sound quite harsh, especially when the festive season is coming up. Of course, depending on your sugar intake and how that impacts your teeth, varying degrees of harm can come. Eating a fruit cake? Likely not as bad as drinking can after can of full-sugar Pepsi. It’s important to note that nutrition does have a real impact on your dental health though, and so trying your best to eat non-processed, or non-artificially/sweetened goods can be important.

Visit A Professional

Visit a professional if needed (though you’re supposed to go every 6 months!). Sometimes, we may find that our teeth are starting to hurt, and this dull ache or sharp pain may be difficult to assess where the pain is coming from. If you’re not used to something like this, and we hope you’re not, it can be hard to get a grip on what is even happening at this point. This is why it’s very important to visit a professional and try to ensure that you can have the problem taken care of, rather than letting it grow. Often, a wisdom tooth dentist is the most common form of help you’ll need, particularly in your late teens to early adulthood.

That said, visiting the dentist can be expensive and lack of finance ranks high among the reasons why some people experience dental issues yet fail to visit the dentist. This clearly shows that whether for general dental treatment or implants, it’s well worth having a quality dental plan in place to help reduce care costs for you and your family.

Care For Chips Or Pains

If you find that your teeth are hurting, or feel very sensitive while eating ice cream, that could signify a need to change your daily habits. Using sensitive toothpaste, going for more regular checkups, ensuring that you’re not being irresponsible with the foods you eat, sticking to healthier beverages such as water or green tea, and staying away from high concentration whitening kits can all have a positive effect. If your teeth become chipped or are in pain, always ask a dentist about the restorative work you can have done.

With this advice, we hope you can care for your dental health correctly!

If you feel as though you don’t look good in whatever you wear, then you will know how debilitating this can be. You may feel as though nothing you do works and that your confidence is going to suffer as a result. You have to know that it doesn’t need to be this way, in fact, there are plenty of ways for you to improve your look without focusing on fashion at all.

Posture

Putting on nice clothes is only half of the formula. You also need to adjust your posture, as this will transform the way that the garment fits you. It will also help you to have a bigger impact on those around you, too. There’s a high chance that having a good posture won’t come naturally to you and this is understandable, but it is possible for you to change this. Stand in front of the mirror, lift your head up and line up your shoulders, hips and ears. When you are standing completely straight, you then need to curve your lower back and pull your stomach in. This will give you a new-found level of confidence and over time, you will start to do it naturally without even thinking about it.

Hair

Before you pay a visit to your local stylist, think about what makes you feel good. Your style will change as you age, and you need to take this into account if you want to get the best result out of your style. A collarbone-length haircut can be versatile and it can also work wonders for your natural weave. Bangs can add an element of precision, too. If you are stuck as to which look you want to go with, then chat with your stylist and channel your personality as much as possible.

Smile

Researchers have found that forced smiles can increase happiness, and they can also decrease stress.  A smile can go a long way in the workplace too, as it can indicate positivity and openness. Even if you aren’t feeling great, try to force yourself to smile anyway. This will improve the way that other people view you and it will also boost your self-confidence! If you don’t feel comfortable with your teeth or your smile for any reason, then you may want to pay a visit to your dentist. When you do, they can then advise you on the best way to fix your problems. You can also find out what you need to know about adult retainers if this is something that you are interested in.

Make-up

If you are not one for wearing make-up, this is understandable. But also, it can work wonders for your look. If you want to help yourself here then it is a good idea for you to wear make-up that compliments your natural skin tone. Don’t go too overboard and cover the features you don’t like, instead, try and bring out the features you do like. This will really help you to get the most out of your look and your style in general.

What To Do When Your Toddler Develops A Skin Condition

October 23, 2019 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

Children are out playing in the sandbox, in the mud, and rolling around in the wet grass. It’s what they are supposed to do! Toddlers are meant to be playing rough and finding out about the world around them by simply doing. This will give them a lot of opportunities to feel different textures, realize what is safe and what isn’t. However during this time, their body is growing rapidly and thus, big changes mean vulnerability. Whenever our bodies are growing there is always a risk that we will develop a condition of some kind. This is because our bodies are growing faster in size that the strength of our immune system. Skin conditions are among the most common for toddlers, so being able to understand and treat such ailments is going to be to your advantage as a parent.

Scalp Itch

There are lots of different scalp conditions that toddlers can develop. As mentioned they will be playing in some messy environments so they have a chance of picking something up. One of them is scalp ringworm is called tinea capitis. Ringworm is highly contagious and it’s possible to be spread from child to child. It usually happens when the toddler is between the ages of 2 to 3. The symptoms should be very clear. Look for a red scalp that is itchy and has developed small scales made of skin. The key is to look for hair loss from the scalp. This could be down to itching but also down to the fluid and inflammation building up underneath the scalp. There may be a rash close by the scalp, such as on the ears, head, face and neck as well. Go to the doctor and he or she will prescribe an anti-fungal medication which will be applied to the head. You may get a treatment that you need to apply to the area and leave it in for a while, or it could be a treatment shampoo.

A Wide Deep Rash

Eczema is more likely present in toddlers than at any other age. It’s because the skin is still developing and it cannot produce the necessary natural oils to keep it lubricated and moisturized. Therefore what you might see is that your toddler begins to have a wide rash that slowly gets deeper. For toddlers, a different kind of treatment such as Dermeze ointment cream should be used. More complex creams like E45 won’t always produce the best results. This kind of ointment cream will be delicate and still moisturize the skin, providing a protecting top layer for your child. Not only does it rehydrate the skin, but it creates a protecting seal for the skin. This is useful for keeping rainwater out of the pores so the natural oils can stay on top of the skin.

For toddlers, the body’s largest organ is perhaps at the weakest level it ever will be. Their skin is something that will almost certainly go through trials and tribulations, so prepare ahead for your toddler.
