How To Improve Your Finances This Summer

July 18, 2025 By lyndsinreallife

Whether you are trying to fund your lifestyle of adventure or are already thinking about Christmas expenses, there are many reasons why you may be looking to improve your finances this summer.

However, this can feel like an impossibility in the current climate, with the cost of just about everything rising. Despite this, not all hope is lost. You need to get creative.

With that in mind, here are four ways in which you can improve your financial standing this summer.

Make sure that you are not owed any money. Believe it or not, there are many scenarios in which you are owed a considerable amount of money without you even realising this. For example, thousands of car owners were mis-sold PCP claims between 2007 and 2021, and are now eligible to claim that money back. If you belong to this demographic, you can check your eligibility and start your PCP & HP Claim with PCP Claimback here.

Diversify your income streams. Diversifying your income streams is a great way to earn money on the side, especially if you are a freelancer or gig worker. This is because you’ll receive multiple paydays throughout the month, meaning you feel less like you’re living paycheck to paycheck.

There are many ways to diversify your income streams. For example, you may want to start working as a virtual assistant or participating in online focus groups and studies.

Seek out deals when shopping. Whether you’re shopping for groceries or new items of clothing, try to avoid checking out until you’re certain you’ve got the best possible deal. For example, when shopping in person, you could save money by downloading the store’s loyalty app to access exclusive discounts. When shopping online, consider using money-saving browser extensions, such as Honey, which automatically applies discount codes and coupons on your behalf. While they may only take off a few pounds here and there, this is something that will quickly add up over time. Alternatively, you should wait to shop until the end-of-season sales kick in.

Don’t live beyond your means. Attempting to live beyond your means will also land you in a difficult situation pretty quickly, as you will be unable to cope with your bills as they pour in. While this does not mean that you have to turn down every plan that involves spending money, try to be strategic and sensible. For example, if a friend suggests going out for a meal and some drinks to catch up, consider turning this into a meal at your home instead. This is much less expensive, but it will not stop you from spending some real, quality time together.

Final thoughts. There are plenty of steps you can take to improve your financial situation this summer, giving you much greater peace of mind moving forward. This will allow you to relax and enjoy the summer sunshine without feeling as though you have to check your bank account every five minutes.
