5 Reasons You Need To Start Drinking More Water Now!

July 7, 2020 By lyndsinreallife 2 Comments

People are always telling you that you need to drink more water, but you just keep forgetting, or maybe you find that a Diet Coke is better for quenching your thirst than plain, tasteless water.

The reason we keep hearing this advice is because it works (and it’s 100% necessary for survival).  Staying well-hydrated on a regular basis really does give life-changing benefits to your body, both inside and out.

Getting Your H20

For those of us lucky enough to have clean water supplied directly to our homes, there’s no reason that we shouldn’t be drinking our gallon+ per day.  If you’re not sure about the quality of water in your home, invest in a water filter jug or special tap that filters the water at the source.  Take a look at this article to find out what could be causing your water to taste weird and what you can do about it.

Still skeptical? Here are just five of the many benefits of drinking more water:

Improve Your Memory

Our bodies are made up of about 60% water so it’s important that we keep our levels topped up.  Even just being slightly dehydrated can affect your memory and ability to concentrate.

So if you want to get that mental edge at work, you know what to do!

Reduce Headaches

Headaches can strike for a number of reasons, so if you’re a person who finds themselves getting frequent headaches and migraines, make sure to reach for a big drink of water (as well as the ibuprofen). *I’m not a medical professional and this is only a recommendation from my opinion.*

Control Your Appetite

Your body often finds it difficult to distinguish between hunger and thirst.  The problem is, we often reach for a sugary treat before we think about reaching for a glass of water. When you feel hungry, try drinking a glass of water first, and see if your hunger subsides. I’ll be honest, this happens to me all the time!

Being hydrated is also an important part of weight maintenance and weight loss. Having water before and with meals can help you feel full quicker, so you’ll (generally) eat less.

Lower Your Risk Of Bladder Infections

Women get a raw deal when it comes to bladder infections; we are much more prone to urinary infections than men.  Luckily, drinking water can reduce the frequency and severity of cystitis and kidney infections.

So remember to drink a lot of water and urinate frequently during the day! This is the best way to push out the bacteria. *If you feel like you have an infection, see a doctor as soon as possible. Antibiotics are needed when an infection is present.

Improve Your Performance At The Gym

Exercise makes us sweat, and most of us know to rehydrate after a workout session. But it’s important that we hydrate before exercising, too! Hydration makes a big difference in how we feel during and after a workout.

Having a good level of water in your body can be the difference between a mediocre session and a great one.  The more water you drink, the more stamina you’ll have to get through your workout.

How Much Water Do You Need?

The general consensus is that the average adult needs half of their weight in ounces of water per day (ex: if you weigh 200 pounds, you need to drink 100 ounces of water daily). Ideally, this should be plain water, but other drinks without sugar are acceptable. Try not to drink too many diet drinks as even though they contain fewer calories, they are full of synthetic sweeteners.

If you’re exercising or in a hot climate, then you’ll be losing much more water through sweating, so you will need to up your daily intake.

Quench Your Body: The Benefits of Staying Hydrated

January 12, 2019 By lyndsinreallife 1 Comment

Image

When the New Year rings in and we finally have a chance to start fresh, most of us are super motivated in the first few weeks, but then after that, the novelty wears off. When it comes to staying fit and healthy we spend the first week of January eating bland salads and drinking a gallon of water (or more), and then eventually our old habits come back. However, drinking a lot of water shouldn’t be a fad.

Below are 9 reasons why you should make sure to drink plenty of water every day, for both your health and your happiness.

1. It Feeds the Brain

If you are ever having one of those days where nothing you do seems to be going right and you cannot concentrate, make sure to drink some water. Whether you choose tap water, Hint Sparkling Water, or spring water, the effect will be the same. Water will stimulate your brain and help boost your mental performance. Always bring water with you to work, school, and pretty much everywhere, because this simple drink can have a big impact on your mind when you are trying to study and retain information.

2. It Aids Weight Loss

Yep, you read that right. Weight loss is something that a lot of us struggle with at one point or another in our lives. Water can be something that helps you lose weight, and maintain that weight loss, too. The reason for this is that water is used to remove fatty by-products from the body and flush them away. It can stimulate our metabolism and will also make us feel full for longer, therefore stopping us from snacking.

3. It Flushes Out Toxins

One of the main jobs water has in the body is to flush out toxins, fat, and bacteria to make sure we stay healthy and strong. Drinking plenty of water can help us when we are under the weather by fishing out any infections and allowing the body to heal. It also prevents us from getting a buildup of substances in the kidneys or bladder which can cause infections or stones. If you haven’t had those before, just know they are super painful.

4. It Makes Your Skin Glow

One of the great benefits of drinking water is that it will keep your skin clear and allow it to glow and stay youthful. Our skin is the biggest organ in our body and it needs to be looked after just like every other organ. Our skin is the boundary which protects our body from the outside world and as a result it can be faced with some harsh conditions, which can leave skin feeling dry and flaky. If you don’t drink enough water, your skin will stay this way and it can impact the health of your skin overall.

5. It Keeps You Regular

One of the things that we need to keep our body healthy and happy is regular bowel movements. If you struggle with your digestion and have issues with your bowel movements, you can experience a lot of cramping and bloating, which is never good for the body. To ensure that your body is able to flush away waste, you need to drink enough water to help it flow. If you don’t, you can end up with constipation (which nobody wants).

6. It Boosts Our Immune System

If you want to stay healthy and strong, and avoid those dreaded sniffles, one thing you’ll always want to do is make sure that you drink water! Our immune system is an essential part of the body and it is something that can keep us protected from all sorts of illnesses. Drinking more water can stimulate our immune system and boost its strength against the common cold and flu, amongst other ailments. The reason for this is that water carries oxygen to our cells, which keeps our systems functioning correctly, and it flushes out the bad stuff.

7. It Prevents Headaches

There is nothing worse than when you are out and about get a splitting headache which prevents you from doing the things you normally enjoy. Headaches happen when the muscles in our head spasm and tighten, and they can be debilitating if they carry on for a long period of time. The good news is that water can help to prevent headaches because it keeps us hydrated, and the main cause of headaches is dehydration. Dehydration can shrink our brain temporarily and this can cause the brain to pull away from our skull, which results in pain. If we stay hydrated we won’t have to worry about this and we can continue being able to do the things we enjoy.

8. It Prevents Cramps

As stated prior, dehydration can cause sever issues for the body, and this isn’t limited to the head. Even in our back and legs we can suffer from cramping due to lack of water, and this is why drinking enough is so important. Hydrated muscles want to move more freely and lengthen, meaning that our flexibility will increase and the chances of us falling foul to sprains and cramps is low.

9. It Regulates Our Body Temperature

Similar to the way a car works, water can act as a natural coolant and antifreeze for the body. Water can aid our homeostasis and ensure that the body runs at its optimum capacity through the day. Sweat is a natural cooling system for the body and this is why when we get too hot, our body secretes it. This is why we have to stay hydrated during the summer, because our body needs the ability to sweat and cool us down.

If we can drink around 8 glasses of water every single day of our lives, it will make a massive difference to our bodies overall, and will allow us to live a long and healthy life.

Avoid Dehydration With The World’s First Alkaline Sports Drink, Phenoh

April 18, 2015 By lyndsinreallife 5 Comments

I suck at keeping hydrated.

Really, I do. I’m ALWAYS thirsty because of a medication I’m taking, I’m always walking/playing with the kids I babysit, it’s hot in LA, and then add in my yoga and stretching. You’d think I’d be better at it! Truthfully, no matter how much water I drink, I can’t seem to feel hydrated. It’s a never-ending battle and it’s severely hurting my health.

Disclosure: I received a 12 pack of pHenOH as part of my #SweatPink ambassadorship with Fit Approach. Monetary compensation was received. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.

I heard about pHenOH through Fit Approach (I am a #SweatPink ambassador) and thought I’d give it a try! It’s the world’s first alkaline sports drink, which aids in staying balanced during times of stress and exercise! Below is an excerpt from the home page of their website, explaining who they are and what pHenOH is:

A superior, healthy, ALKALINE alternative to conventional sports drinks. Phenoh has redefined the concept of a “sports drink” to reflect the needs of athletes and active individuals alike. Phenoh 7.4, with just 7 naturally healthy ingredients and a pH of 7.4, is everything that your body needs to stay balanced during stress and exercise. This is not an ade, this is pHenOH.

phenoh #sweatpink ph alkaline sportsAfter a yoga sesh; ignore my sweaty selfie & super weird smile! 😉

What attracted me to pHenOH is the pH level. PHenOH’s pH level is 7.4 (alkaline) and is the biggest part of what makes them stand out. If you’re having difficulty recalling anything from your high school chemistry class (ahem, me), pHenOH gives an easy lamens terms summary of pH (website):

The body is naturally alkaline  [7.4 pH] and it must stay that way in order to function properly. Stress and exercise cause the production and buildup of acidic compounds in our blood, contributing to fatigue and negative health effects.

Regular sports drinks have an excessive amount of sugar and extremely acidic pH levels. Did you know anything below a pH of 5.5 can cause tooth decay? Super gross. So not only am I not hydrating enough, I’m also most likely consuming things with too high of a pH. In addition to the things I’m consuming, I also have very high stress levels (I rarely have me time). I realized it was time to try pHenOH and see if it helped!

In a nutshell, YEP! After incorporating pHenOH into my daily routine (2 a day for 6 days), I felt more hydrated and balanced. Dehydration causes fatigue, so it was definitely awesome not getting tired a couple hours after waking up. For only have 7 ingredients, I wasn’t sure how it would taste. However, it is delightful! I love the hint of aloe vera and agave nectar.

The Ingredients:

  • the finest organic aloe vera
  • naturally low glycemic organic agave nectar
  • potassium (no added sodium)
  • magnesium
  • vitamin C
  • only 30 calories per 8 ounce serving

Research shows that pHenOH 7.4 (source):

  • Increases VO2 Max (oxygen metabolism) by up to 10%.
  • Boosts your endurance.
  • Enhances your peak athletic performance.
  • Offsets the effects of altitude on performance.
  • Buffers your acidic metabolic waste during exercise and stress.

If you’re interested in a Q&A with the founder Alex Schmotter (an avid outdoorsman and dentist), I highly recommend fellow #SweatPink ambassador Kinetic Fix’s blog post!

My honest opinion of pHenOH 7.4 alkaline drink:

phenoh alkaline sports drink ph #sweatpinkAlso after my yoga sesh; hydrating with pHenOH of course!

I love it! I’m an advocate for consuming only natural and organic foods/drinks (except the occasional cake from Susie Cakes), avoiding chemicals as much as possible, and easier ways to get hydrated. I can only drink so much water without getting bored; having a tasty, healthy drink like pHenOH is exactly what I need! Oh, and my boyfriend totally loves it. He’s a soccer coach, health coach, swimmer, and exercise enthusiast (he walked 12 miles today if that’s any indication of his enthusiasm), and he’s been stealing my pHenOHs (I caught him red-handed!). He never likes anything I like; so pHenOH and friends, know that this is a HUGE victory! Haha 🙂

Share on social media what you love about pHenOH 7.4 by using the hashtags #GoAlkaline, #FindYourPhenoh, #StayBalanced, & #Sweatpink! You can find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

#FindYourZen With CocoZen Coconut Water

August 9, 2014 By lyndsinreallife 2 Comments

I have a pretty serious obsession with coconut water. It’s my absolute favorite thing to drink, and I like to try every brand I find. I had the opportunity to try CocoZen™, and I am a huge fan!

What is coconut water?

Coconut water is the clear liquid obtained by opening a young, green coconut, the fruits of the coconut palm tree. Coconut water is fat and cholesterol-free and has a light, sweet taste. Its unique mixture of natural sugars, vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, enzymes, amino acids, cytokines, and phyto-hormones makes it the perfect refreshment solution (as found on the CocoZen website).

Why is it called CocoZen?

We want to help you find the calm within the chaos. Your Zen is here. Our mission is to create elements and communities that help you discover, experience, and vitalize the core of your true nature every day.We are dedicated to providing authentic and natural coconut products that help support your healthy and active lifestyle. From source to shelf, we’ve covered every angle to bring you the finest coconut water on the planet. CocoZen is 100% natural, filled with essential nutrients, packed and sealed at the source, and as fresh as nature intended (as found on the CocoZen website). Their motto is Find Your Zen. I love it!

CocoZen comes in a tetra pack, which helps to keep the coconut water fresh for several months. This way, it can be easily stacked on shelves, plus it’s recyclable! I like it because it has a screw cap, so you can drink a little bit at a time, and put it back in the fridge to finish later (within 24-48 hours).

Where can I buy it?

CocoZen can be found in select NYC stores, and also on Amazon. It will also be sold at fitness centers and yoga studios as time goes on. The package on Amazon comes with 12-11.1 ounce tetra packs for $29.45. It’s not the cheapest coconut water I’ve found, but it’s really good quality, and that definitely makes a difference!

A few fun facts:

  • Coconut water is 95% water and a fat and cholesterol-free drink. It also a rich source of electrolytes, B vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and phytonutrients.
  • It is naturally gluten-free, vegan, and kosher.
  • The fruit sugar is natural and derived from fruit such as pears and apples. These sugars are added to ensure every serving of CocoZen delivers the same sweetness level.
  • Coconut water is considered an isotonic drink because it contains the same concentration of essential salts and minerals as in your body cells and blood. This makes CocoZen the ideal rehydration drink to replace these precious substances lost from physical activity.
  • Electrolyte-rich CocoZen is perfect for keeping the body hydrated and supplied with essential nutrients during and after pregnancy.
