BARKsgiving Pawty with BarkHappy Recap

November 19, 2016 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

BarkHappy, a relatively new app for dog parents, hosted a BARKsgiving Pawty this past Thursday in Las Vegas. It was a blast! We’ve been using BarkHappy as a way to meet new dogs and their parents in the Vegas area. We love the events (dog park play dates, parties, charity events), and were really excited about a Thanksgiving party!

barkhappy-barksgiving-pawty-las-vegas

The event took place at the Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar at Town Square. It’s a really cool restaurant! They have a huge outdoor patio so people can bring their pups. They even have a dog menu, which is so cute! We ordered the beef and rice for Archie. He loved it!

Each ticket was $10, and all proceeds benefited A Home 4 Spot, a local rescue and 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Each of us received a goodie bag, which included:

  • Baked treats from Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming (plus a discount code)
  • Discounts + a clicker for Puppy Boutique Las Vegas
  • Plus entry into a raffle (multiple prizes)!

We met some great people, and their super cute dogs! Archie had a blast. It was a bit chilly, which was the only downside. However, Lazy Dog has plastic covers for their patio and heaters, which helped a lot!

We are really excited for the next BarkHappy event (holiday event in December). It’s always a pleasure!

You can download the BarkHappy app on APPLE and ANDROID. Find us if you’re in the Vegas area! We’re under Archie & Lyndsay. 🙂 Note that BarkHappy is in most cities, but you can only find people/pups in your area. The app also shows you dog-friendly restaurants, parks, etc in your area. It’s pretty great!

Run for a Rescue with the Doggy Dashers Virtual Run/Walk + Promo Code

September 13, 2015 By lyndsinreallife 1 Comment

If you follow me on social media, you’ll know how much I love my dog Archie. He’s pretty much my favorite thing in the world. If I have a chance to help him and his furry, four-legged friends, you best bet I’m going to!

Archie, my boyfriend, and I ran The Puppy Run 5k/10k a few months back, and Archie LOVED it! He loves running more than he loves toys, and he super loves toys. The Puppy Run was such a success that Gametiime decided to host the Doggy Dashers Virtual Run (Nov. 6-9) benefiting the Northwest Boxer Rescue (NWBR). NWBR’s mission is, “Every boxer deserves to live a happy life in a loving home.” Archie isn’t a boxer (he’s a toy poodle), but dogs are dogs, and we love them all!

Not only do you get to spend quality time with your pup, family, and/or kids, but you get to help doggies in need. Plus you get awesome swag! Check it out:

How The Girls & I Celebrated National Picnic Day (With Subway)

April 27, 2015 By lyndsinreallife 2 Comments

This past Thursday, April 23, was National Picnic Day. I didn’t realize this was a thing (apparently there’s a food holiday every day!), but I am all about food and the outdoors. So naturally, I needed to get in on this.

When Subway offered to cater a picnic with the girls I nanny/babysit, I knew it would be a perfect way to celebrate!

Disclosure: Subway provided two $10 gift cards in exchange for a blog post and social media shares. No other monetary compensation was received. I only share about events and products I feel my readers would enjoy. All opinions are 100% my own.

I babysit a 9-year-old girl named Frances (I call her Fran) in West Los Angeles. We have so much fun together, so we were both pretty excited to have a picnic. She invited two of her friends from school, Gia and Mia. We also brought along our dogs, Archie and Little T. We were each able to get a full meal (6-inch sub, chips, and a drink) with the gift cards (I used some of my dollars for cookies #duh). Everything was SO good, even the dogs tried eating it. 😉

First, we stopped at the Subway on Washington Blvd in Culver City, Calif.

Then we had our picnic at the park in Playa Vista, Calif.

It was a GORGEOUS day for a picnic!

And of course I snapped a few selfies. 😉

It was an awesome day! The girls and I had so much fun; we will probably do it again soon!

A huge thank you to Subway for catering our picnic; it was delicious! Find Subway on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram.

  • How did you celebrate National Picnic Day? Did you know about this holiday?
  • Do you enjoy Subway? What’s your favorite sandwich?
  • Do you enjoy picnics? (trick question- who doesn’t?!) 😉

Thank you so much for reading!

LA’s First ‘Workouts on Demand’ App: Handstand

December 23, 2014 By lyndsinreallife 6 Comments

For almost two years, I lived in Los Angeles without a car. Being a fitness enthusiast and health coach, it was important to me to be active. I was able to run outside and do workouts at the park, but if I wanted a personal trainer or to attend a yoga class, there weren’t many options for me.

Now I have a car, but I also work a lot. I babysit for 3 families, I have a very energetic puppy, and have to keep up with the housework. By the time I get home, going out to a studio or yoga class is the last thing I want to do.

Lucky for me (and people in a similar situation), there’s Handstand.

Handstand App Workout on Demand LA Yoga Cover

Disclosure: I received a free session using the Handstand app in exchange for an honest review on my blog. No monetary compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own.

Handstand is LA’s first ever ‘workouts-on-demand’ app, and it allows you to search, book, and pay for a fitness professional to come to your house for a private session. It’s like Uber for fitness. How awesome is that?! You can book a yoga session, cardio workout, sessions for two people, and more! However, it’s currently only in LA.

Handstand App Workout on Demand LA Yoga 2 Archie was really excited to do some yoga 🙂

I had a Q & A with the founder of Handstand, Tiffany:

Why did you create Handstand?

I really believe that working long or unpredictable hours, making time for friends, catching up with family, finding relaxation time, having young children, on top of all of the other responsibilities that only increase as we get older– leaves minimal time for health and fitness- which is where I came from and why I created Handstand. I made the time, woke up early, drove to the gym, worked out, showered, changed, ate, made it to work, but that was ridiculous. In fact, it was counterintuitive and left me over exhausted. And we read all these quotes that a “one hour workout is all it takes” but as I came to find, it was 2 hours and that was if I hurried.

What was your inspiration for Handstand?

I was always into fitness and discovering new trends. When I initially tried yoga at a class in a gym, I remember feeling incompetent and frustrated. I wasn’t relaxed after the session, but let down and discouraged. After some time, I gave yoga another shot in a smaller group setting with my cousin who just wouldn’t leave me alone about it! The yoga instructor came to my house and 10 minutes in, I immediately understood why my cousin pushed me into this. The instructor was different and the one that came over that day didn’t make me feel like a beginner, or that I wasn’t flexible enough, but rather she encouraged me to try different poses and adjusted me based on what she saw.  I felt her trust and by the end of the class, she was able to guide me into a handstand— something I NEVER thought I could do! So, I named this app “Handstand” which is symbolic of the goals we can reach when we have the right instructor or trainer guiding us. Every single trainers and instructor on Handstand is Handstand approved and can truly help anyone reach their goals- may it be a handstand or something else they’re reaching for.

Where do you see Handstand going in the future?

With Handstand, no matter where my users go, whether it be alone on a business trip in San Francisco, or to New York for a quick visit, they’ll never be alone or have to miss a workout. Hassle-free, accessible, affordable, and truly a new experience in every city. There will always be someone new to meet, someone there to motivate, change, and show my users new moves in a new city when they have time.

Handstand is constantly being updated with new instructors and new workout types, which is where we’re heading now. Want to try meditation but don’t want to find a studio on your own? Find one on Handstand and invite a friend! Want to workout with your fiancĂ© before work? Order a bootcamp session on Handstand for two. It’s affordable, accessible, and hassle-free.

What makes Handstand stand out from its competitors- if any?

Handstand is the first Workouts on Demand App in LA – and it comes from a place of need. It’s for everyone out there; people who want to work out with their friend, but go to different gyms; for the girl who’s trying to lose some weight, but just can’t afford a trainer to help her; for the mother who has a young child at home and has to find a sitter to make it to the gym; for the man who wants to try yoga but hasn’t the first clue of where to go or start– this is for everyone.

I want my users to know they can feel comfortable with everyone on the platform because that was my inspiration and goal. No judgments, no commitments, no hassles. Planning, scheduling, and finding the right class or time isn’t what fitness is about. So no one has to sweat that now- Handstand has it set up for you- anytime and anywhere.

Thank you, Tiffany!

I had the amazing privilege of trying Handstand. Here’s how it works:

  • Download the app (iOS) or go to the website.
  • Click “Find a Workout”.
  • Choose your neighborhood.
  • Search for a trainer! You can choose by searching time, type of workout, or price.
  • Book your trainer for your desired date and time.
  • Pay.
  • Have an awesome session! (You can rate the trainer after the session)

Super simple and convenient, right?

I scheduled a yoga session with Nikka for Saturday at 12:30 pm in my apartment. Nikka showed up right on time, with a yoga mat and blocks in hand. I already have a mat, but it was awesome that she brought one just in case! She didn’t mind that I had two small dogs locked in the bedroom. They barked for awhile, but it didn’t distract her. I really appreciated it! We talked for the first 10 minutes or so, which I really enjoyed.

It was a little strange having a trainer come to my house who knew nothing about me, but she was extremely friendly and we had a lot in common. She asked me what yoga I like to do, what injuries I have, and what kind of yoga I wanted to do for our session. I told her about some health concerns I’ve been having (joint issues, specifically), so she suggested restorative yoga (for stretching). We also talked about what brought us to LA. It turns out, we are both from the Midwest! It’s always awesome connecting with people from the Midwest; we’re pretty similar and I love it!

The session lasted an hour, and it was EXACTLY what I needed! Nikka showed me an inversion pose that I now do every single day. I felt centered and happy the rest of the day. I will definitely be scheduling another session with Nikka, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the LA area looking for private sessions!

Handstand App Workout on Demand LA Yoga Archie (my pup) & Mocha (a friend’s pup) were excited that Nikka was over!

Live The Luxx Life With Live Well 360 + Discount

November 20, 2014 By lyndsinreallife 4 Comments

I have a confession to make.

I am obsessed with bags. Totes, clutches, shoulder purses, messenger bags, gym bags.. even the reusable bags from the grocery store. You should see my closet. I love it (boyfriend hates it)!

So when Fit Approach offered me the opportunity (as a #sweatpink ambassador) to use and review a Live Well 360 fitness bag, I said yes as quickly as I could! Seriously, I had poor internet at the time, but I was determined to hit reply.  Disclosure: **I received a Luxx bag from Live Well 360 at no cost to review on my blog. No monetary compensation was received. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.**

Live Well 360 Active Bag Luxx 4

Live Well 360 is a Santa Monica-based company that has reinvented fitness bags.

“Getting yourself to the gym is complicated enough. You want a quality fitness bag that knows what you need before you do and will stand up to your active lifestyle. Live Well 360 bags simplify your routine and your life” (website).

They currently offer four different bags:

  • Tote
  • Core
  • Accel
  • Luxx

I have the Luxx bag, so that’s the one I am going to focus on in this post.

Live Well 360 Active Bag Luxx 2

I am IN LOVE with my Luxx bag!! It comes in black, grey, or purple (I have grey). It has 11 compartments, which includes a fleece-lined pocket for your phone and keys, mesh compartment for your shoes, and a padded compartment for your laptop. Along with that, it has a mesh holder for your water bottle and straps on the front for a yoga mat.

Live Well 360 Active Bag Yoga Mat  Live Well 360 Active Bag Luxx Yoga

It doesn’t stop there. You can wear the Luxx as a short shoulder bag or a long shoulder bag (there is a removable long strap).  Plus, the inside is lined with inspirational words!

Live Well 360 Active Bag Luxx 5  Live Well 360 Active Bag Luxx 3

(Please disregard the excessive blurriness of this photo- I use my iPhone 4S!)

It wasn’t long before I took my bag everywhere with me. My first stop? The gym. I packed that baby with everything I could potentially use. There was A LOT in there, but it didn’t feel too heavy or uncomfortable!

Live Well 360 Active Bag Luxx   Live Well 360 Active Bag Reebok

This past weekend, my boyfriend (Tim) and I went hiking for our two year anniversary, and we took our puppy Archie. The hike through Eaton Canyon was going to be a little over 3 miles (we were also completing our #definebrave virtual 5k with Katie K Active), but we needed essentials for Tim, myself, and Archie. So we took the Luxx bag – packed with snacks, water, Archie’s food and potty bags, our phones, etc. – on our hike, and it was perfect!!

Again, it didn’t feel too heavy or uncomfortable. I was able to adjust the length of the strap, which was really helpful because Tim carried the bag a bit, too, and he is taller than me. It worked out great!

All in all, I am VERY satisfied with my Live Well 360 Luxx bag! It honestly exceeded my expectations. I didn’t realize how much easier certain aspects of my life would become with this bag.

So here’s the deal:

Live Well 360 has partnered with Fit Approach (for this campaign) to offer a 15% discount on your purchase at livewell360.com! Whether you want something simple like the Tote, or something more “complex” like the Luxx, you’ll automatically get 15% off! You must go through this link to get the discount.

By the way, Archie says you should get a Live Well 360 fitness bag:

Fourth of July & A Trip Back Home

July 4, 2014 By lyndsinreallife 8 Comments

Happy Fourth of July everyone! I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. 🙂 I’m really happy right now because I am spending my holiday (and the next 3 weeks) on Kelleys Island in Ohio with my family! Yes, Ohio has islands. LOL. Lake Erie has a few of them, and Kelleys Island happens to be the one I practically grew up on. We camped here every single year since I was 4, and now my parents own a house right on the lake.

856I took this picture tonight from the front yard of the island house. Amazing, right?! It’s absolutely amazing. I keep joking that a SoCal resident vacations on a tiny island in Ohio haha. I’m on the island for about a week (even running a 5k tomorrow- I’ll update on that tomorrow!), in Ohio for two weeks, and then Chicago for one week. I’ll blog as much as I can, but it’ll be pretty busy! We don’t have very good internet up here at the island, so it’s been really hard to keep up with blogging and Facebook. Bare with me!

I’m still pretty jet-lagged, so this is going to be a shorter post. But I wanted to note how awesome it is being able to spend time with family. They’re all in Cleveland and I am in Los Angeles, which is about 2300 miles apart. I have two nephews under the age of 7, soon to be 3 come September. I feel like I am missing out on so much since I live so far away. It’s hard. However, I realize that by not living here, I appreciate it more. I value my time with my nephews, parents, and brothers.. even my dog Emma! She lives with my parents still (they couldn’t bare to let her go), and she follows me EVERYWHERE every time I am home! I just love it. It’s like she totally remembers me. She gets really excited when she sees me, she sleeps with me every night, and she won’t leave my side. Sometimes it feels like I never left. It feels so good to be home.

866 With my pup Emma

831 Little brother Mike & I on the golf cart

The pictures aren’t edited so they’re not the best quality, but I wanted to share them anyway. 🙂 Now it’s time for bed! Being in the Eastern time zone has me all messed up. Three hours makes a HUGE difference! 5k in the morning along the quarry, followed by an awesome day with my family and a few island friends whom I haven’t seen in two years!!

Have an amazing & safe holiday!!

XO,

Lyndsay
