Tips To Help Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions

January 14, 2020 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

New Year’s resolutions are something many of us will make each year, and although making those resolutions can be effective, not all of us will stick to them. Perhaps you’re fed up with not living by the promises you made to yourself while a little tipsy the night before? Here are a few tips to help stick to your New Year’s resolutions.

Be Realistic

When you’re setting goals for anything in life, it’s important to dream big but also to be realistic. Not every goal or resolution you make is going to be something you can ideally achieve within a small amount of time. Like learning a new language in six weeks isn’t something that you’re going to be able to do within that short space of time. If you’re trying to quit smoking, cut down slowly or try vaping from The Vape Mall. Take more realistic goals as your resolution, with the big goal being something you’re working towards achieving eventually. If your goals aren’t realistic, then it’s unlikely you’re going to stick to them.

Make A Plan

A plan is a great way to get down your objectives and the things you need in order to make this resolution happen. For example, if you’re aiming to lose weight during the year, then perhaps thinking about your first steps will help. A change in diet is going to be needed, and maybe you cut certain things out. You might want to note down that you need to join a gym or do X amount of sports classes that you find in your local area. Once you’ve laid out a plan, it’s going to be easier to follow than just making it up as you go.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your process is certainly helpful for seeing how far you’ve come, especially if you have moments of self-doubt. It’s good to give yourself some inspiration in times where you need it, and just to give yourself the opportunity to see the progress made is really good to have. Find a way of tracking it that makes it easy for you and that you can encourage yourself to do regularly. Don’t overcomplicate it, otherwise, you’ll find less motivation to do it on a daily basis.

Don’t Beat Yourself Up

The most important thing to think about when you’re trying to stick to something is that everyone can have days where they fall off. It’s to be expected and something that will likely happen, but it’s essential not to beat yourself up about it. Everyone will have times where they want to give up permanently or give up for just a while, but it’s what you do to get back to where you need to be, that matters the most. So give yourself a break if you need it and then reward yourself when you get back on track.

Sticking with a resolution for the New Year can be difficult, but with the right tips, you can certainly help yourself win!

Motivational Health Swaps To Make In 2020

January 12, 2020 By lyndsinreallife 2 Comments

For most people, their resolution for the New Year is to be healthy and yet by this point, the decision has probably been long forgotten, and they are back to their old habits. The motivation just is not there to make the changes that will keep them living their best healthy life.

It’s not about the summer holiday ahead and inevitable bikini photos. What it IS about, however, is your health and your body and the way that you feel. The good thing is that you can swap out a lot of the bad habits you’ve adopted and start living in a way that keeps you feeling well on the inside. Shall we take a look?

Swap Cocktails For Spirits & Mixers

Cocktails are usually packed with sugary syrups, added colors and plenty of juice. While this makes them delicious, you should consider enjoying a night out with friends by swapping to a spirit and a slimline tonic or diet soda. You can enjoy a night on the town with friends without racking up the calories and adding weight that you don’t want!

Swap Cigarettes For Vapes

While it’s an achievement to give up smoking, some aren’t able to give it up entirely. Buying from GeekVape will allow you to swap out the 20-a-day habit and slowly start cutting back on cigarettes. You know the risks of smoking cigarettes, and swapping that habit this year is going to improve your health massively.

Swap The Elevator For The Stairs

There’s nothing like a brisk walk to start out your day. If you’re on the fifth floor at work, let go of the elevator and use the stairs instead. I always take the stairs instead of the elevator! Just getting your steps up can help your heart and make you fitter. The simple act of taking the stairs instead of the elevator can make a huge difference in your health this year!

Swap Fried For Air-Fried

There’s nothing quite like a plate of hot, salty fries with dip. The problem is the amount of oil that’s used in a fryer. However, if you buy yourself an air-fryer for the kitchen, you can still enjoy hot fries without as much oil to get them crispy and delicious. Something as simple as this can let you have the food you love without the calories to add weight where you don’t want to. The best bit is that you can cook pretty much anything in an air fryer and enjoy it the same way you would have before – just with less oil!

Swap The Car For Your Feet

Healthy swaps are all about getting your health to the best it can be. Leaving the car at home and walking to work or the store is going to make a massive difference to your fitness levels. It’s also going to make you richer because you’re going to spend a lot less money on the gas and use of your car!

Healthy living is all about making you feel good and giving you a chance for health success. Embrace them this year! Happy 2020! 🙂

How to Stick to Your Health Goals

January 10, 2020 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

Happy New Year 2020!

We all want to be healthier and feel great but sometimes, it’s a lot easier to revert to our old bad habits – even when we know they’re bad! One of the reasons for this is that once we reach our goal, we relax the rules and wind up right back where we started. This is why so many people do yo-yo dieting and end up far heavier than when they started.

Instead of making a heap of big changes all at once, it’s far better to start with one small change and build up. Once you have achieved a small success, you get the confidence you need to make the next change. But how do you achieve that first step?

Be Accountable

If you are trying to lose weight but you’re the only one who cares, it’s quite easy to slip back into old habits, because you only have to justify it to yourself. But when you have someone else hold you accountable for your actions, it means that you aren’t just working for yourself but for that person, too. This isn’t about being told off, though; it’s about knowing you have the support you need to make considered changes.

Signing up for a program like Working Against Gravity is a great option for this. By working with a nutritionist, you get all the advice you need and someone looking out for you. With the right kind of support, you can go at your own pace, set your own goals and still know that you are going to make progress.

Notice the Changes

Part of the reason that some people give up on their health goals is that they stop noticing a difference. Because they can’t see a change in the mirror, they assume nothing is happening. But, if you take the time to write down how you are feeling and monitor your stats, you will see a steady improvement over time.

Keeping a bullet journal to track your health is a great way to focus in on the key things you want to learn about yourself. For example, you could track your blood pressure or make a note of the weights you lifted or how many reps you did at the gym. You could also track your hunger and what you’re eating to see if you are snacking more or less and what you’re eating. The more you track, the more differences you will see and the more you’ll want to carry on.

Reward Yourself

Learning new ways to reward yourself is always going to be fun. If you tend to reward yourself with bad food, now is a time to change things up and find new things to enjoy. A warm bubble bath, a night out dancing with your friends, or any number of things could be perfect for you.

Remember that if you want to make a positive change, you have to think in a positive way. Aim for something good instead of running from something bad. Make your new lifestyle the one you want to keep!

Don’t Delay A Chance To Get Your Health On Track

January 9, 2020 By lyndsinreallife 1 Comment

There are certain things in life that we’re so lazy with. There’s cleaning the home, making some food for the next day, getting off the sofa to go up to bed, not washing our hair all week and using dry shampoo until the death. When you look at how lazy we can be as a human race, you’ll wonder how we get by from day to day. Because considering we’re so lazy, we’re also the busiest people on this planet. Compared to every other species that lives with us, we’re the busiest.

We have to go to work nearly every day, build finances to buy things, manage a home, plan a future. The list of things that we have to do could go on and on for the whole article. Nobody else has to go through this when living their life. Their main goal is to find food and find shelter. So there are things that we become lazy with in life, and one thing that we really shouldn’t be lazy with is our health.

Good health is always taken for granted. We’re often delaying chances to get our health on track for so many reasons, some of which we’re going to explore today. So, keep on reading, and finally make moves to get your health on track!

Doctor Worries

This is probably one of the main reasons why people don’t go to the doctors, they’re worried about what’s going to happen. As a kid, going to the doctors is either something you’re going to have been really scared about, or you seriously didn’t mind as long as you got a sticker. But if you were a kid who had a big fear of the doctor, perhaps you had some traumatic experience that sent you into a terrified spiral of never going to the doctors, then that fear can extend into adult life. Some people don’t like going in case they get hit with a random blood test, or have to be referred to see a specialist that also might run some invasive tests.

We generally don’t trust doctors because they can do so much to us in terms of poking and prodding and sticking needles in. However, if you just communicate with them before you go in, nothing has to happen on that day without your consent. You can walk in and back out again having only had a conversation. So don’t put that initial conversation off just because you’re nervous, it gets the ball rolling, and everything else you can do in your own time once you’ve figured out what the plan is.

Fear Of Getting Old

This is definitely a biggy when looking at why the don’t go to the doctors. There are certain health problems that are completely ignored until it’s too late, and they have got far worse because they have been left so long.

Common issues surrounding the ears as adults get older, are ignored. Things like pain and infection, people usually head to the doctors for. But when it comes to losing hearing and things like tinnitus, adults don’t like to go because they know that the likely solution is a hearing aid, which is a symbol of old age. But it really shouldn’t be. Hearing aids are now so much more advanced than they have ever been, meaning they’re smaller and more effective, so nobody has to know! We shouldn’t be hiding our health problems in fear of looking old!

Common Problems Everyone Ignores

There are some big problems that people tend to ignore because they’re either worried as to what the problem might be, or embarrassed and don’t want doctors looking at it. The first is issues surrounding the private area. It’s just not nice to have to expose yourself to a doctor that you’ve only just met. Men in particular can leave issues relating to their genitalia for months and months. It’s sometimes the reason why cancer being found is delayed! Women are more open to dealing with body insecurities and just letting the doctor do their job.

Another common problem that gets ignored are common lumps and bumps that we instantly think are cancer. If ever you have a lump it’s always good to get it checked out. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, everyone deserves to know whether it’s something that has to go, or something that might stay for life. Never delay a chance to visit the doctor when you feel like your health is not right, no matter what the problem is.

4 Ways to Adopt Healthier Eating Habits This Year

January 21, 2019 By lyndsinreallife 4 Comments

You vow to yourself every single year that you are going to be healthier and happier, no matter what. By the time early February rolls around, you haven’t achieved any of your goals and you’re (okay I’M) eating pizza on the sofa every single night. You realize that you might be setting unrealistic goals for yourself, so you’re determined to do it right this time around. In order to get the most nutrition out of your food, you need to know how to cook it correctly. Spend a little time doing your research about cooking healthy and wholesome meals. You might not be getting enough nutrients if you’re simply eating lettuce leaves and raw carrots. If you’re still stumped about where to start, consider the following four ways to adopt healthier eating habits this year.

image

  1. Get Prepared in the Kitchen

You aren’t going to be able to cook delicious and nutritious meals if you don’t have the correct equipment. If you tend to stick to microwave and oven-baked meals, you might just be missing a trick. Take a look at these made in cookware reviews and you will soon be able to discover the best utensils, pans, and pots to make your kitchen feel complete (I seriously can never have enough kitchen utensils). Every healthy person has a kitchen stocked full of fancy gadgets and simple staples, so be sure to fill up your cupboards with everything you need right now!

  1. Add Things in Rather Than Take Them Out

Try not to think of healthy eating as a method of restriction (because it’s not!). Cutting out your favorite foods isn’t going to get you on the right path, so consider what you can add into your diet instead. Fresh, leafy green vegetables, fatty acids, and rich protein will make you feel more energized and ready to conquer all of your goals.

  1. Quit Dieting

Make sure you aren’t viewing this lifestyle overhaul as a fad diet (or a fad diet as a lifestyle change), as this could potentially damage your relationship with food. Don’t cut out entire food groups and don’t try to survive on meal replacement shakes and bars. Make sure your new lifestyle is sustainable and is nourishing to your body. It’s so easy to get caught up in the yo-yo dieting mentality (trust me, this is my biggest problem), so try to steer clear from anything that sounds too good to be true (because it is).

  1. Allow Yourself the Occasional Treat

You should never restrict yourself from having treat (or fun meal full of carbs) every now and then, otherwise you’re going to drive yourself bananas. A little slice of chocolate cake or a donut a couple times a week isn’t going to hurt you. A healthy balance is all you need to enjoy a wholesome and happy lifestyle.

Eating healthy will always feel like a chore if you’re not prepared ahead of time. Stop cutting out all the foods that are supposed to be “bad” for you, and explore new delicious flavors that are really going to improve your wellbeing. You will be on track with your goals in no time as long as you’re not too hard on yourself. As annoying as the saying is, moderation really is key.

  • What helps your healthy lifestyle?

The Perfect Stocking Stuffer For A Fitness Fanatic + Discount

December 18, 2014 By lyndsinreallife 2 Comments

If you’re looking for the perfect stocking stuffer for your fitness-loving friend, look no further! I have been introduced to a product that will change your fitness lifestyle forever.

ShowerPill.

Disclosure: I received a free box of ShowerPill wipes as part of my #sweatpink ambassadorship with Fit Approach, plus compensation. All opinions are 100% my own.

What Is ShowerPill?

“ShowerPill is an antibacterial wipe for your body (NOT a pill).  It is like wiping down with soap and water which leaves skin feeling clean, fresh and moisturized. One wipe cleans your entire body.  It will save you time, decrease chance of skin infections and keep you fresh & clean when a “traditional shower” is not possible” (website).

Stocking Stuffer ShowerPill Holiday

Why Is It Called ShowerPill?

“The word “ShowerPill” is directly from the locker rooms of college athletes during training camp double-days who jokingly wished for a hypothetical “pill” to instantly clean themselves after a long exhausting workout” (website).

Stocking Stuffer Holiday ShowerPill

A Few Facts:

  • Extra thick like a washcloth
  • Kills 99.99% of germs including Staph
  • Aloe Vera & Vitamin E
  • Quick dry solution, no sticky residue
  • Light fresh scent
  • Hypoallergenic & Gentle on Sensitive Skin
  • Paraben & Alcohol FREE

Each box contains 10 individually-wrapped wipes, so it’s easy to stuff in your gym bag, purse, or even your pocket! There’s also a package that contains 250 wipes, so if you’re a gym or yoga studio owner (for example), you can provide wipes for everyone.

ShowerPill Holiday Stocking Stuffer

With the individual wrapping, they fit perfectly in a holiday stocking! I would LOVE to receive ShowerPill wipes this holiday, because it is irritating and gross to go from yoga to babysitting to the grocery store without a shower/wipe-down in between. ShowerPill works for my lifestyle because I am always on-the-go. Plus, when I babysit, we play outside and sometimes get muddy. Being able to wipe down before my next babysitting job is super refreshing! And like I said, on the days I do yoga, I definitely need ShowerPill. Even if it’s just stretching, I sweat!

My boyfriend, Tim, especially loves these wipes. He had knee surgery right before Thanksgiving, and he needs to clean his surgical site after each workout. His gym is 20 minutes (or more, depending on traffic) away from our apartment, so ShowerPill wipes have been a life-saver!

After using the wipes, Tim said,

“These wipes are alright. Like, I spent most of the time figuring out what I wanted to wipe off first. Like you don’t go [privates] to neck, but you also don’t want to wipe your arm pits then go everywhere else. A bit of a struggle. I’d probably use 2 wipes if I was a regular user.”

Let me add that Tim is a pretty goofy guy who likes to make jokes. 😉

ShowerPill Surgery Holiday Stocking Stuffer  Surgery ShowerPill Holiday Stocking Stuffer

And guess what? You can get 20% off 2 boxes of ShowerPill with code holiday20 through Jan. 1 (2015) at www.showerpill.com! Holiday shopping on a budget? This is perfect for you, friends, and family! (Must purchase 2+ boxes for discount to apply).

Check out ShowerPill on their website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube!

Welcome to the New Year

January 3, 2014 By lyndsinreallife Leave a Comment

Happy 2014 everyone!

I hope you enjoyed your NYE and NY day! I was in Ohio for Christmas with my family for two weeks, and it was great for reminding myself what is important in my life. I was able to get my head clear and my priorities straight, and I came back to LA with great vision of why I do what I do.

I work hard with my nutrition and fitness business because I want to have the opportunity to fly home whenever I want.

Although, maybe not in the winter, because my flight back to LA was canceled, and then I traveled for 17 hours to next day to make it back. It was definitely an interesting day!

So, new year’s resolutions. I used to have resolutions every year, and I would write them down in my journal on January 1st. Then I got to a point where I thought it was silly to change something just because it is a new calendar year. I thought that a new year wasn’t an actual reason to SAY I was going to lose weight, or whatever I picked that year. People on Facebook are very vocal about their thoughts on this as well. I see so many people posting “why now and not before?” etc etc.

I totally understand their point, however, I now disagree.

Who cares if you’re deciding to lose weight, get healthy, stop smoking, WHATEVER just because it is a new year. YOU ARE STILL DOING IT! Which is AWESOME!! Say your goal is to lose 10 lbs in January. You’re going to bust your butt to lose those 10 lbs. And guess what? You’re already going to be doing way more than the people who don’t want to make a resolution. I’m not saying you have to have a resolution to lose weight or be awesome, but sometimes for certain people, it is easier to have an actual reason to lose weight, or stop smoking, or learn to play the piano, and so on.

I will admit that I am one of those people. Having a reason, having something specific to look forward to, that helps me. And I have finally figured that out and embraced it.

Whether you like the idea of a “new year” or not, I believe we all secretly love new beginnings, even if it’s just because a calendar says so. So I suggest using the new year as a reason to improve yourself in some way. It doesn’t matter what it is, just something that makes you a better person this year.

What are you going to choose?
